This little guy was giving Mary the full details on all the work getting done (can you tell how much I love my Christmas present):
We made lots of good progress on the camper, and look forward to sharing all the recent updates here on the blog tomorrow.
Josiah was kind enough to give us one of the milled boards he had stored in the farm workshop:
We've been looking out for a nice thick, reclaimed board just like one of these, thinking of building out an exposed shelf on our back kitchen wall. Yesterday afternoon we measured for size, made a couple adjustments to the board edge, then moseyed around the hardware store in search of potential shelving brackets:
The funny thing about going to the hardware store is how Basil just comes right along for the ride. Many of the Broad Street Lowe's employees know him well enough that they'll come up to greet him.
Stephanie's also been continuing to settle into her space since we restored the walls in her room. After finding a dresser she liked on Craigslist, I found myself driving out to Chesterfield with her yesterday evening to check it out, bringing it back to the homestead. I like to think I helped her get a good deal, even after she told me my hair looked crazy just before walking up to the place (true story).
Stephanie's currently thinking about a distressed white coat of paint to update the piece, so I'm sure we'll have updates for you as we progress on this new project as well! I asked Stephanie to just shoot me some ideas of what she wanted and she said, "I pinned some to my pinterest board — just go take a look." I would have to say, the percentage of 48 year old dads who know what that means or even how to get there might be few and far between. Makes a guy proud!
We did get a chance to squeeze in a date night Saturday, checking out Foo Dog for the first time since it recently opened:
I've had Asian street food on the brain ever since answering Monica's blogiversary question about location-based food travel, and this was about as close as we could get to making that dream come true close to home. Btw, the "KFC" (Ken's fried chicken) at Foo Dog is all that!
In other exciting news, we have summer vegetables in the city actually coming in:
We tried our hands at cucumbers and zucchini this year, both of which have produced nicely — methinks it's time for a summer garden update here on the blog sooner than later.
P.S. There's still time to enter for a chance to win $50 to spend at MightyNest in our latest giveaway — find all the details here.
